Chimpanzee
Marria
Marria's journey to a new life
In early 2017, AAP rescued chimpanzee Marria, who had been living in a Portuguese family’s home for thirteen years. She did everything with that family: eating, sleeping, showering and watching TV. All those years she never saw a peer; something that is very important for a chimpanzee.
The last months with the family, Marria was locked up in a bare garage, because she showed unpredictable behavior. At AAP she experienced step by step what it’s like to really live as a chimpanzee.

Marria's story
Chimpanzee Marria was raised in a family as a human child. Once at AAP, she learned for the first time to be with other chimpanzees.
