The coalition of animal welfare organisations Animals Asia has sent a harsh letter to travel platform TripAdvisor denouncing ongoing animal cruelty in the attractions promoted by the company. Despite TripAdvisor’s much-advertised new animal welfare policy, in the last 12 months evidence has been found of “tours involving the eating of endangered species, the performance of protected wild species and the riding of elephants being sold.”
AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection (AAP) shares these concerns and has co-signed the letter. AAP regularly rescues animals with a past in all sorts of entertainment, including their use in tourist attractions or as photo props. Like Xaria, a young female talapoin (primate species native to Angola) confiscated in a street market in Spain just earlier this month, and taken to AAP Primadomus, our rescue facility in Alicante.
Animal Asia’s letter calls on TripAdvisor to take immediate action to end their association with companies which continue abusing animals.
