Caracal Feder – a former stray – now at AAP

Caracal Feder was only one year old when she was rescued in 2022. For the past few years, the German rescue centre Raubtier- und Exotenasyl took care of her, until financial difficulties forced them to find Feder a new home. Fortunately, AAP was able to take her in.

A past as a pet

The young caracal was found roaming the streets of Ansbach, Germany, in 2022. Efforts to locate her owner were unsuccessful, although neighbours reported having seen what appeared to be a caracal in the window of a nearby house.

The owner was never identified, so it remains unclear whether Feder escaped or was deliberately released. She was taken in by the local rescue centre Raubtier- und Exotenasyl, which has looked after her ever since—until her recent relocation to AAP.

New phase at AAP

Feder will now spend some time in quarantine, where she will undergo the necessary veterinary checks. Once she is more accustomed to her surroundings and out of quarantine, we will try to socialise her with one of the male caracals living at AAP. We hope to find Feder the companionship she needs, and to eventually find her a permanent home at one of our outplacement partners.
